About

"Kate Bevington is a local potter who has lived in Ithaca for 34 years. For 20 of those years, she was a dedicated elementary school teacher at Lansing Central Schools. She now works at the Clay School in Ithaca, making a variety of beautiful functional vessels and teaching others how to throw pots on the wheel. Her work has evolved over time from mostly wheel-thrown circular forms to include more hand-built elements and organic shapes. She uses a variety of surface decoration techniques, often carving geometric patterns or pressing leaves, lace or other textured items onto the surface of the pot.

Kate creates functional ware, including vases, planters, mugs, platters and other dishes for the home, but avoids mass production. Although groups of her cups, plates or bowls can work together beautifully as a set, each piece has unique variation in color or design, so that no two pieces are exactly alike."
